North Star Volunteer Fire Department
Apprenticeship/Recruit Firefighter
Program
LEVEL
2
January 2004
LEVEL
2 (Recruit Fire Fighter) This is
the second level of the program. Members who have completed Level 1 and have
been issued gear in accordance with the required training attendance are
considered Apprentice Fire Fighters. They are allowed to engage in limited
emergency scene support activities under direct supervision.
Emergency scene support activities are: any task performed in areas outside of
an IDLH (immediately dangerous to life and health) atmosphere. Apprentice
FF’s and Cadets will not be put in a situation where they could be injured due
to lack of training violating risk management policies.
NOTE: A member may spend the night at Station #1 with permission from the Shift Officer and the on-duty Battalion Chief. This, again, provides an excellent opportunity for training. The member may respond on assigned apparatus to an emergency scene. However, his/her involvement is limited to emergency scene support until he / she has completed Level 2 successfully and has been checked off by an authorized instructor. (Upon completion of this level, a number 2 will be installed on his/her helmet to represent level 2.)
The
following tasks have been identified as the minimum requirement for completion
of Level 2.
