Proficiency Checkoff: I have reviewed skill knowledge with student and he/she appears ready for a Battalion Chief checkoff.
After the tasks have been completed and
checked off by an authorized instructor, the member will take this booklet to
the Training Division (Training Officer) for review and sign off. Information
will be forwarded to the Fire Chief or Deputy for authorization to proceed to
the next level. Authorization for issue of equipment will be on a prescribed
form (found in your apprenticeship level 1,2, 3 and 4 booklet) which will be
signed by the Training Division and the Fire Chief.
Once authorization is granted, the following personal
protective equipment will be issued: turnout pants and boots. Also, an additional red reflective strip will be added to the back of
your helmet (you will now have three Ahash@ marks) signifying your completion of level 3
training. These
hash-marks signified to the incident commander and operation personnel that you are
entry qualified, but you are able to work as a back up on entry hose line,
etc., and considered a “certified” firefighter.
Members completing level 3 are now capable of being
utilized at an emergency incident by the incident commander or operation
officer for tasks such as staffing a back up hose, or making entry with a line
officer.
