FROM: Jerry Hanson, Deputy Chief DATE: February 12, 2007
For Immediate Release: North Pole, Alaska.
The North Star Volunteer Fire
Department had a busy few days recently.
Last weekend was an all “A” Shift weekend and starting on Friday at just
after noon and going through Monday morning, firefighters responded to a total
of 17 calls. The day crew, Batt. Chief Russ
Ackerman and other dept. personnel ran on 12 EMS calls (including MVC’s,
assaults, etc.), 1 fire call that turned out to be Steam for Smoke, and 4
“other” calls that were a mix of CO investigations, smoke investigations,
etc. The weekend shift was wrapped up
with a two-vehicle Motor Vehicle Collision (MVC) on Badger Road that resulted
in severe damage to the two involved vehicles however no complaints of injuries
by a total of five occupants. Very
lucky, indeed.
In addition to handling the above
calls, NSVFD personnel participated in all day training activities over the
weekend at Station One as well as across town at Chena Goldstream Fire and
Rescue Station Two.
This is a busy, community involved
and community supported Volunteer Fire Department. Can you help YOUR community fire department? While we need firefighters, we can also use
help in many other ways, including but not limited to helping with station and
vehicle maintenance, administrative duties, etc. If you have any questions, call NSVFD Station One at 488-3400.
