For Immediate Release: North Pole, Alaska. On Friday evening at about 9:00 PM
a fire destroyed a 30’ x 40’ wood frame shop located at 1347 Still Valley off
Lakloey Drive. When fire fighters arrived 4 minutes after the call fire was
venting thru the ridge line of the roof and out the gable vents. As hose lines
were being deployed, the roof stated to collapse. Fire fighters were able to
contain the fire within about 45 minutes. It took another two hours to
extinguish hot spots and remove smoldering debris.
Fire
originated in the attic. The cause for the fire is under investigation.

fire fighters from North Star fire department along with an engine company from
North Pole Fire, Ft, Wainwright Fire and Steese Fire responded mutual aid.
The
shop is owned by Rick and Karen Callahan. Loss is estimated at about $150,000.
The owners have insurance. There were no injuries.
