For Immediate Release:
North Pole, AK: On Saturday morning about 12:30 AM a fire caused
extensive fire damage to a mobile home and attached wanigan located at 1315
Smithson St. in 6m Village off the Old Richardson Hwy.
Fire fighters from the North Star Volunteer Fire Department
were called when a passing motorist saw flames in an area behind the 49er Club.
When fire fighters arrived about 5 minutes later the mobile home had heavy fire
involvement in the front portion. Heavy smoke was also coming out the rear
portion of the structure. Eleven fire
fighters and three engines from the North Star Volunteer Fire Department
responded along with a mutual aid engine from the Fairbanks Fire and Ft.
Wainwright Fire Department. There were
no injuries.
Investigation into the fire indicates a person or person
intentionally set the building on fire. ATV tracks were found leading up to and
away from this area.
This mobile home was a target of another intentionally set
fire in February of 2006. Someone had poured some flammable liquids on the
floor in the building and attempted to set the building on fire with a flare.
FNSB Property records indicate the mobile home is owned by
Samuel Carter. The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire. There was
no heat or electricity.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the North Star
Vol. Fire Department at 488-3400. Investigation is continuing by the Fire
Department and the Alaska State Troopers.
