For Immediate Release:        North Pole, Alaska.

 

On Friday evening, November 7, 2008, at approximately 8:51 p.m., the North Star Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at a well known North Pole landmark, Lee’s Sauna and Massage Parlor, located at 1431 Old Richardson Highway.   Fairbanks City Dispatch stated callers were reporting smoke and flames coming from the roof of the structure.  The first fire engine arrived on scene within 6 minutes and found an approximately 60’ x 100’ one story wood frame structure with heavy black smoke throughout and fire showing from 50 percent of the structure.  

 

Firefighters from North Star Volunteer Fire Department, Fort Wainwright Fire Department, City of Fairbanks, City of North Pole, University Fire, and Steese Area Volunteer Fire Departments  had the fire under control within 1 hour of arrival.  The fire was completely extinguished at 0059 hours.

 

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.  The structure, valued at approximately $65,000.00, was a total loss.  The structure was unoccupied when fire crews arrived and there were no injuries as a result of the fire.
